The Felix's will be adventuring to the state of Washington for the first time starting June 9. I hope to provide everyone with an epic blog post after our trip (or during if time permits 🤣). We have a loaded itinerary which I will share with you once we return back to Pittsburgh.
It will be our first time this far west! And it won't just be Shane and I, but brother Felix is coming too! We will be visiting North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Mount St Helen's, and the Columbia River Gorge. We expect to return in the future to see more of Washington state and Oregon. We will be doing a separate trip to do Crater Lake and northern California!
Months and months of planning went into this trip... Getting all of the air bnbs, hikes, and other things to line up with 3 national parks and the month of June kind of was against us. June is a little early for the mountains (since it can still snow even right now!) BUT it's a good time to beat a lot of crowds, and a better time for the rainforests ...
I constantly checked the weather leading up to the trip to see how many suitcases I needed to bring 🤣 The weather is more spring like in June and layers are recommended, so packing was a lot of fun 🙃
Also during the month of June is the migration of whales around the San Juan Islands so we will be doing a boat tour as well. Hopefully we will see Free Willy!
